What is deleted

All of the following is erased immediately and permanently:

  • Your profile: name, photos, date of birth, gender, bio, interests, occupation, education, religion, genotype and every other profile field
  • Your location, including your city and last known coordinates
  • All of your matches and every message in them
  • Every wave you have sent or received
  • Your posts, your comments, and comments other people left on your posts
  • Your event RSVPs and any tickets you hold
  • Your coin balance and your coin transaction history
  • Your live streams, saved events, notifications and verification requests
  • Any blocks, reports or unmatches involving your account
  • Your subscription record, which stops any further billing by us

What is kept, and for how long

  • Events you created stay published so that people holding tickets are not left stranded, but your name is removed from them and they are no longer linked to you
  • Records of purchases made through Apple or Google, meaning the store transaction reference, the amount and the date. These are financial records we are required to keep, and they are not linked to a profile once your account is gone

Financial records are kept only for as long as tax, accounting and fraud prevention rules require, and are deleted once that period ends. Nothing retained can be used to identify you on Waves, because the profile it belonged to no longer exists. Backups are overwritten on a rolling basis and any copy of your data in them is gone within 30 days.

Cancel your subscription first

Deleting your Waves account does not cancel a subscription you bought through Apple or Google, because they bill you, not us. Cancel it in the store first. On iPhone, open Settings, tap your name, then Subscriptions. On Android, open the Play Store, tap your profile picture, then Payments and subscriptions.
