Terms of Use
Last updated: 13 June 2026
Welcome to Waves ("Waves", "we", "us", or "our"). These Terms of Use ("Terms") are a binding agreement between you and Waves and govern your access to and use of the Waves website, mobile and web applications, the Wave Connect Telegram experience, and all related services (together, the "Service").
By creating an account, tapping "I agree", or otherwise using the Service, you accept these Terms and our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.
1. Eligibility — you must be 18 or older
The Service is strictly for adults. By using Waves you represent and warrant that:
- You are at least 18 years of age (or the age of majority in your jurisdiction, if higher);
- You have the legal capacity to enter into these Terms; and
- You are not barred from using the Service under any applicable law.
We do not knowingly permit anyone under 18 to use the Service. See our Age Policy. If we learn that an account belongs to a minor, we will terminate it immediately.
2. Your account
- You must provide accurate information and keep it up to date.
- You are responsible for activity on your account and for keeping your login secure.
- One person, one account. Do not impersonate anyone or create an account on someone else's behalf.
- We may refuse, suspend, or terminate accounts at our discretion, including for violations of these Terms.
3. Identity verification
Waves is built on trust. We use a live selfie and short liveness video, reviewed against your profile photos, to verify that members are real people. By submitting verification media you consent to our processing of it as described in the Privacy Policy. Changing your verified photos may revoke your verified badge until you re-verify. Verification is a signal of authenticity; it is not a background check, criminal screening, or a guarantee of any person's identity, intentions, or safety.
4. Acceptable use and prohibited conduct
You agree not to use the Service to do, attempt, facilitate, or encourage any of the following. This list is central to these Terms.
Illegal or harmful activity
- Anything unlawful, or that promotes or facilitates unlawful activity.
- Commercial sexual activity of any kind — including prostitution, escort or "companionship-for-pay" services, solicitation, or offering, requesting, advertising, or arranging sex, dates, or any meeting in exchange for money, goods, or other consideration. Waves is a platform for meeting real people, not a marketplace for paid encounters.
- Human trafficking, exploitation, or any sexual content involving or appearing to involve minors (zero tolerance — reported to authorities).
- Using the Service to send, collect, or transfer money between members, to run an escrow, or to circumvent our payment system in connection with any meeting or service.
Abuse of other people
- Harassment, threats, hate speech, stalking, doxxing, or bullying.
- Non-consensual sharing of intimate images, recording, or sextortion.
- Sharing another person's private information without consent.
Platform integrity
- Fake, misleading, or impersonating profiles; bots, scraping, or automated access.
- Spam, scams, phishing, fraud, or "romance scams".
- Malware, attempts to breach security, or interference with the Service.
- Reselling, commercializing, or advertising third-party goods/services without our written permission.
We may remove content, restrict features, suspend, or permanently ban any account that violates this section, and we may report unlawful conduct to law enforcement.
5. Safety and meeting people
Your interactions with other members are your responsibility. Waves does not conduct criminal background checks and is not responsible for the conduct of any member, online or offline. Any meeting you arrange happens off the platform and at your own risk. Always meet in public, tell someone where you're going, and use the in-app reporting and blocking tools if something feels wrong. If you are in danger, contact local emergency services.
6. Subscriptions, payments and virtual items
- Some features (including unlocking contact details, messaging, creator content, events, and virtual gifts) require payment or a subscription.
- All payments flow from you to Waves for the services we provide. Waves never holds or transfers money between members.
- Payments are processed by third-party processors (e.g. Paystack). By paying, you also agree to the processor's terms. We do not store full card details.
- Prices are shown before purchase. Subscriptions renew for the stated period unless cancelled before renewal. You can cancel at any time; cancellation stops future renewals and does not, except where required by law, refund the current period.
- Except where required by applicable law, payments and virtual items are non-refundable. Virtual items have no cash value and are licensed, not sold.
7. Creators and paid content
If you offer paid subscriptions or content, you are a "Creator" and additionally agree to our Creator Policy, including identity/KYC requirements and content standards. Creators are independent and are not employees or agents of Waves.
8. Your content and licence
You retain ownership of the photos, videos, text, and other content you submit ("Your Content"). You grant Waves a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to host, store, reproduce, adapt, display, and distribute Your Content solely to operate, promote, and improve the Service. You represent that you own or have the rights to Your Content and that it does not violate these Terms or anyone's rights. We may remove any content that we believe violates these Terms or the law.
9. Intellectual property
The Service, including its software, design, logos, and trademarks, is owned by Waves and protected by law. We grant you a limited, personal, non-transferable, revocable licence to use the Service for its intended purpose. You may not copy, modify, reverse-engineer, or create derivative works except as permitted by law.
10. Termination
You may stop using the Service and delete your account at any time. We may suspend or terminate your access at any time, with or without notice, for any violation of these Terms or to protect the Service or other members. Sections that by their nature should survive termination will survive.
11. Disclaimers
The Service is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose, non-infringement, or that the Service will be uninterrupted, secure, or error-free. We do not warrant the conduct, identity, or compatibility of any member.
12. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, Waves and its affiliates will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for any loss of profits, data, goodwill, or for any harm arising from your interactions with other members or any offline meeting. Our total liability for any claim relating to the Service will not exceed the greater of the amount you paid us in the 6 months before the claim, or ₦20,000 (or local equivalent).
13. Indemnity
You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Waves and its affiliates from any claims, damages, losses, and expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising out of your use of the Service, Your Content, your conduct toward other members, or your violation of these Terms or any law.
14. Governing law and disputes
These Terms are governed by the laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, without regard to conflict-of-laws rules. You agree to first contact us to seek an informal resolution. Any dispute that cannot be resolved informally will be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the competent courts of Nigeria, except where applicable law gives you the right to bring proceedings elsewhere.
15. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. If we make material changes, we will provide notice (e.g. in-app or by email). Your continued use of the Service after changes take effect means you accept the updated Terms.
